Pencil sketch of a Mauri-style shoulder tatou

Hi,

I get a lot of requests for custom tattoo designs, unfortunately it's impossible to do them all, but here's a nice tatoo project I'm working on at the moment.

My customer asked me to do a tattoo sketch for the shoulder and up to the back/neck. He wanted to see some original eagle designs with claws and wings in a tribal style. The big central curve at consists of two tribal claws of the eagle and at the bottom of the tattoo I made some realistic feathers that would flow onto his biceps and upper arm.

Here's the first pencil sketch I did:

The feathers needed some adjustments to run on the biceps correctly. I also made them more abstract to go better with the overall design:

I'm waiting for my customers response, so I can finish the pencil drawing and start on the final high quality piece.
If you're interested in my designs, you can follow me on twitter, facebook or check out my channel at youtube, simply hit the buttons at the upper right of this page.

Any questions? Please send me a message!

Extension shoulder tattoo in Polynesian mixed style

Hi,

Last year I created a half sleeve tattoo in polynesian style for a Dutch customer. It's a bit of a mixed tribal style, it has some stylized flowers and other repetitive shapes:

Unfortunately the tattoo artist applied the stencil too small, so it now needs some extensions.

I marked the upper shoulder part that had to be inked.

I created a basic sketch and once it was approved I finalized it. To give you an idea how that process works I shot a short movie and placed it on youtube:

Tribal tattoo mask design polynesian style

Hi,

A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from the company "Paddle Republic", a surf/fitness school in the Key West, Florida.

Their design studio had come up with a polynesian mask logo, but it needed some adjustment, especially on the mask, because it was a design from a stock library. I was asked to redraw the (tattoo)mask with an original Maori inspired touch to it.

This is the logo from their design studio:

I made two pencil sketches with a different look:

It was in the right style but they asked me to do another sketch, a bit more round and with more koru/maori curves:

This was exactly what they were looking for, so I could trace the design in Adobe Illustrator, to make it a high quality vector logo:

Once that was completed, I added the words "Paddle Republic" and replaced the red color:

Shoulder blade tattoo maori samoan style

Hi,

It has been a while, but I just finished a nice tattoo piece. It's a design for the shoulderblade and back.
My customer wanted to cover quite some skin, with nice Maori Kirituhi shapes and some Samoan patterns.

First I made a template from the measurements I received, and started sketching:

maori outlines art tattoo sketch designer onlineI really enjoy to make the first basic koru shapes, this gives the tattoo a nice flow and "cuts" the large template into smaller pieces that can be filled with other intricate patterns, like triangles, spearheads and repetitive lines.

Once the basic layout is set, I move on to the next fase.

My client asked for some Samoan patterns, which are mainly formed by even lines filled with very detailed shapes (upper left side of the tatoo):

In the centre of the pencil sketch I drew a row of arrowheads and triangles, but I removed it later as you can see in the completed sketch:

After optimizing it and creating a linedrawing I sent it to my customer.

Armband tribal tattoo with star

Hi,

I have been working on an armband tattoo for a Dutch customer. He wanted a mixed tribal style with some nice sharp edges.
The design had to be seamless and incorporate an existing star on the inside of his wrist.
I'm not really keen on working around existing tattoos, but for this time it was not very much of a problem.

The size had to be 7 cm wide and a full wrap around the wrist with a seamless fit.

Here you van see how I started on the design:

The outer sides that are in blue show how the design will make a seamless fit:

I had to adjust some koru shapes, because it looked a little bit too much like a love symbol.
This is the final sketch and the high resolution design:

I'll be back soon with another project, probably a lower leg project.

Tattoo for ankle and lower leg

Hi,

It has been a while since my last post, but here's one of my latest designs.
A tattoo for the lower leg, from ankle up to calf and knee:

The customer wanted some surf elements like waves, shark theeth and stars in the tattoo. It's a symmetrical piece with some flowing curves. Here's the high resolution tattoo drawing:

shin and lower leg tribal tattoo design

Hi!

A quick update on the tattoo design I showed you earlier. It's the lower leg tattoo (knee to ankle) in a tribal mixed style. I really enjoyed this design for some reason. It has a great symmetry, which makes the tattoo look nice and clean. This morning I finished the first pencil sketch and sent it to my customer.

Here's a preview of the tattoo design:

shin calf lower leg tribal maori tattoo designsI'm also working on a large number of tattoo designs for my portfolio.
If everything works out, I'll upload the new designs to my webshop in March or April.
The plan is to have around 30 or 40 new images that can be purchased online. The first 5 sketches have already been drawn and worked out. The first tattoos are for the forearm and have some nice realistic feathers incorporated.

New tribal tattoo designs

Hi,

I haven't posted my sketches for some time, because of some health issues.
But I wanted to show you some nice tattoo designs in polynesian style and mixed tribal style.

The first design is a symmetrical tattoo piece for the upper shoulder. A polynesian mask image. I'm still working on the sketch, but here's a picture of the design till now.

The second one is quite a large design for the chest and upperarm. It almost completely wraps around the upper arm and shoulder. Then it runs to the chest and it also covers a small area on the back.
A few weeks ago I received a phone call from an Israelien tattoo shop, with the question if I could design a large piece in this mixed tribal style.
Here's a photo of the sketch. I kept part of the tattoo in symmetry, because otherwise it would loose its balance and get really messy.

When these tattoo images are finished, I'll post the high resolution images and show you what I will be working on in the upcoming weeks.

Elbow tattoo design in mixed tribal style

Hi!

It has been a while since I posted my last sketches and updates, but here is a new tattoo project that I started yesterday.
One of my customers asked me to do an elbow tattoo, similar to the one Cesc Fabregas has.
He only wanted to have it in a mixed tribal style like some of my images on my website.

Here are the first pictures of this design in progress:

I e-mailed these pictures to my client, so I will get back soon with an update.
